About ISOFIX

The ISOFIX (International Standards Organization FIX) is a standardized European child seat fitting system,  which permits the attachment of child seats in a car without belts, by means of specially designed fitting points.

The ISOFIX safety seat fitting system helps to minimize or even nullify the chances of installing  a child safety seat incorrectly.

The ISOFIX system removes the need to use the car’s seat belt to secure the child seat. The seat just clicks into a special clip, located in the car's seat,  providing a secure anchorage for the child safety seat.

For greater stability, ISOFIX-equipped child seats feature additional features to keep them firmly in position. This includes belts, which attach to the top-tether anchor point in the car, located either in the boot (trunk) floor or the car's seat back.

ISOFIX child seats are produced in a number of categories on the basis of a child’s age. Groups 0+, 0+1 and 1, are meant for children up to 18 kg. This is explained by the fracture strength rating of the ISOFIX connectors.

The main advantage of this system is the simple, quick, and reliable attachment of a child safety seat in a car. This is of crucial importance.

Numerous surveys, car accident analyses, and crash tests vividly prove that a properly installed child safety seat is the most effective way of protecting a child during a car accident.

Another advantage of the ISOFIX  system is that it prevents tipping, rotation, or pendulum motion of a safety seat. In the «0+» age group such seats guarantee maximum protection for children.

One disadvantage of the ISOFIX system is its higher price - seats with with ISOFIX connectors are 1.5 to 2 times more expensive than competing brands. Likewise, it is 20-30% heavier than other brands.

Finally, as there is no government legislation standardizing the design of vehicle back seats, it is not possible to install ISOFIX safety seats in some vehicles.
