What’s the right way to choose an automobile child safety seat?
When choosing the best vehicle child safety seat, you need to consider the following points:
- The seat must be chosen according to the child’s weight. It should refer to the appropriate weight group. If the child’s weight and age do not correspond to the statistical average, then their weight must become the main factor in your choice.
- The seat should necessarily be marked ECE R44/04, which certifies its compliance to the current European Safety Standard.
- The child should feel comfortable in the seat. An uncomfortable seat causes the child to misbehave, which may distract the driver from the situation on the road.
- The choice of the seat directly depends on the frequency and length of trips. The longer the time the child spends in the seat, the more comfortable it should be.
As a rule, the best choice here is a seat for a particular group (only Group 0, 1, 2, or 3). If the child will normally spend a short time in the seat, a multi-group universal seat can be a better choice (seats for groups 0+/1, 1 / 2 , or 1 / 2/ 3). - The child automobile seat should fit the actual vehicle that will be used. Technical parameters should be definitely taken into account. If you choose an ISOFIX seat, please check the availability of the vital belt anchors in the vehicle.
- While choosing an automobile seat, it’s essential to check the belt-regulating system. The retractor of the belt must be adjusted according to the child’s age. Also, it must be adjusted according to the number of layers, and thickness of the clothes the child is currently wearing (according to the season of the year).
- To correctly and safely secure the child’s automobile seat with the optional safety belts, use the special marks on the pass-ways of the fastening belts on the seat body. If the seat is to be installed facing the rear, use the blue marks.
If the seat is facing forwards, use the red marks. Instructions with small pictures are provided with the seat.
